Former Computer Associates General Counsel Gets Two Years for Role in Accounting Fraud

Former Computer Associates general counsel, Steven Woghin, received a two-year prison sentence last week for his role in accounting fraud at the Long Island, N.Y. software company. Woghin pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit securities fraud and obstruction of justice. Computer Associates back-dated contracts using “35-day months” and “three-day windows” to recognize contracts executed after the close of a fiscal quarter. In 2004, U.S. Department of Justice press release first announcing the guilty plea and the sentencing finally took place in 2007.
